maasholm

Location of the Naturerlebniszentrum Maasholm.

On June 24, 2002, we installed two Güralp CMG3TD seismometers at Naturerlebniszentrum Maasholm. One seismometer (seismometer 1 on figure below) is buried in the ground, another one (seismometer 2) sits in the corner of a building. Coordinates of station 1 are 54º
41'45"N, 10º00'56"E. Right now, we are collecting data for comparison between the two setups and to assess the quality of the location Maasholm for receiver function studies. Stay tuned...

We had to remove our stations from Maasholm in the end of 2002 due to large-scale earthworks near the sites which made useful measurements impossible. The obtained data, however, currently waits for a hard-working student...

Plans are taken from the website of the Naturerlebniszentrum Maasholm.

Naturerlebniszentrum Maasholm Plan including location of the two seismometers.

August 7, 2002: Maasholm seems suitable. However, station 2 has a considerably higher noise level than the buried one. On August 13, we'll relocate it and add a third one, resulting in a triangular mini-array. Details below.

Trace of the Mb=7.5 Russia-China event on June 28 as seen by seismometers 1 (bottom) and 2 (top). Time offset is erroneous.
45 minutes of noise at noon. Sensor in building on top, buried sensor at bottom. Time offset is erroneous.
Power spectra of recorded noise shown above.

Naturerlebniszentrum Maasholm Seismometer setup after August 13: Station 2 has been relocated (now 2a), station 3 has been added.
